Likely Valentine’s Day looks an awful lot
different since you've become a parent! It can be hard to get babysitters on
February 14th so often the traditional date night isn't on the
table- but that doesn't write off Valentine’s Day just yet! Pretty Princess has
some great ideas for parents (and kids!) to celebrate love!
Although little princes and princesses aren't usually thinking about romance just yet Valentine’s Day provides a
perfect opportunity to talk about what it means to be in love. Modeling great
relationships is one way kids learn what they can expect out of love so take
this opportunity to talk about your own love story. Take out the photo albums
and talk about when you fell in love, how you committed to one another and of
course how excited you were to see your family grow as a result of love! Make a
little storybook about your family’s journey in love and have the kids illustrate
it or paste in photographs- way better than any old fairytale now you can read
the real thing at bedtime!
If you haven’t already discovered Gary
Chapman’s The 5 Love Languages now is
the perfect time! Check out the website and talk with your kids about the ways
in which you and your partner express your love for one another and the way you
both express your love for them. Ask your kids what makes them feel most loved-
you might be surprised what you find out! My four-year-old Princess feels most
loved when I make her “delicious things” and my three-year-old little Prince
knows I love him “when I give him a biggest hugest cuddle”.
Valentine’s Day just wouldn't be complete
without something sweet! Try making Recipegirl’s delicious Red Velvet Pancakes
with a sweet cream cheese topping! Even if you don’t have the cookie cutters to
create heart shaped pancakes the red colour alone makes these tasty treats
perfect for Valentine’s.
Love is definitely worth celebrating; don’t
give up on doing something special as a couple just because a babysitter proved
elusive! There are thousands of date night ideas available online, try to find
something you will both enjoy- as elaborate as a sit down candle-lit dinner, as
simple as popcorn and a dvd, as silly as building a fort in the loungeroom!
Have a beautiful Love Day!
