Santa Claus is coming to town - tips for getting the perfect Santa photo.

Santa Claus has arrived at a shopping centre near you, and its time to start thinking about the annual Santa photo again. When you still have young children in the family this picture can cause nearly as much anxiety as it does joy, it can be hard to gauge whether you’ll be seeing smiles or tears on old St. Nicks lap!  Pretty Princess is here to help this festive season- use these handy hints to net that perfect shot this festive season.

·         Pick your location.  There are so many Santa’s to choose from! Try and choose one in a place the children are familiar with and will feel comfortable at. If time allows walk past Santa a few times in the days or weeks before photo day. Watch other children have their pictures taken so the kids know what to expect.

·         Build it up! Talk to the kids about what they might ask Santa, and about what’s on their wish list. If you can try to make a day of it- is there a favorite store or playground nearby the family could visit afterwards?

·         Pick your time. You don’t want tired or hungry little Princesses and Princes, if they aren’t going in happy its unlikely they will warm to Santa and a photographer waving bells in their faces!

·         Come prepared. You could be in for a long line up! Make sure everyone is toileted before arriving. Have hairbrush and baby wipes on hand for any last minute touch ups. It might be a good idea to bring along a small toy for each child to play with as they wait.

·         Dress to impress. When picking clothes its fine to go festive but try to avoid red- Remember Santa will be in red and you want your family to stand out not blend in! And remember this means you too! If all goes south you may need to hop in the photo even if you didn’t initially plan on it!

·         If your little one is shy allow them to take along a special toy or teddy bear. Having that security blanket with them may give them the confidence needed to produce a smile!

Meet Alicia

Spring is in sight, and with only two weeks of winter to go some Pretty Princess loyalists recently gathered for an extra special sneak preview of some the Spring range. The new stock won’t be available to view on the website until the end of August but here’s a little preview of what you can expect to see.

As winter fades away Bebe by Minihaha has introduced us to their new ‘Alicia’ range. You can expect light cottons in clean whites and pastels, ruffled fabrics, lace trims and sweet floral patterns alongside neat pretty-in-pink pinstripes.

The Bebe ‘Alicia’ Striped Dress, adorned with the beautifully embroidered hot air balloon speaks of icecream, longer days and beachside holidays. The entire range screams spring and summer fun. The light airy fabric used throughout the ‘Alicia’ range will keep your little princess cool and comfortable while she enjoys the sun.

Bebe Alicia Striped Dress

While the days are certainly getting sunnier that nip in the air isn’t going anywhere just yet, evenings out in the spring air call for light cardigans to keep chilly breezes off little arms. The Bebe Swing Cardi in a crisp white will match any spring dress beautifully and is just the right thickness for that in-between weather as we emerge from winter.

Bebe Swing Cardi

Light cotton bodysuits are the staple item of a warm weather wardrobe for the baby-toddler age range. These practical little pieces don’t have to be boring. Smocking and adorably frilled sleeves make the Bebe ‘Alicia’ Frill bodysuit perfect for special occasions as well as everyday wear. Lightweight and easy to move around in, the bodysuit also has easy nappy change fasteners so it’s just as practical as a plain romper.

Bebe Alicia Frill Bodysuit

We’ve all been so enchanted by ‘Alicia’, and there is so much more of this special range to be revealed at the end of the month. Check back so that you too can get acquainted with this Springs’ must-have Princess wear.

Flower Girls

Flower girls make the sweetest addition to a wedding. No one can help but smile at an adorable little Princess as she heads down the aisle in front of the bride. Traditionally flower girls and pageboys represented good luck and fertility for the couple’s future. Today choosing a flower girl is a special way to include a child special to the couple in the wedding and is also a special honour and expression of love for the child’s family.

It’s important that decisions regarding child attendants are made early on so that parents have the opportunity to prepare them for their role. Flower girls should be between the ages of 3-7. An 8 year old can have the title of junior bridesmaid and any younger than 3 and the little princess is just as likely to freeze rather than smile down the aisle!

It is most appropriate to choose a child from the family or a godchild of the couple over friend’s children. However if you have a special child in mind and feel you may need to provide special roles for a number of other children as well consider appointing some child ushers or depending on age and ability have them hand out programs, or packets of rice or confetti for the end of the ceremony.

Luna Luna Xanadu Dress looks beautiful on any little Flower Girl

The Bride should choose the dress however it is the flower girls parents who are responsible for purchasing it, along with shoes and other accessories. The decision should be made in conjunction with the Flower Girls mum who will foresee any potential problems (e.g. a Flower Girl who refuses to wear a certain colour or finds a certain design or fabric itchy). It is best to pick out a very special dress that could be worn again for other celebrations.

One of the fun things about Flower Girls is their dresses need not match the rest of the bridal party- you may choose a dress in line with the colour theme of your wedding or go for a classic white, ivory or powder pink. Pretty Princess has some very special dresses available just perfect for Flower Girl duty. We also offer free postage for orders over $150!

Luna Luna Glitterati Dress

Ensure the entire outfit is organized well before the day, it will help the Flower Girl’s confidence if she can get dressed up: dress, shoes and all- to practice ‘the walk’ up and down her hallway.

Little Leona Princess Pleat Dress

Just like the Bridesmaids the Flower Girl should receive a little gift from the bride on the day. A piece of jewelry to wear on the day is a lovely choice or alternatively consider choosing something that will not only be treasured but will also keep the little princess entertained at the reception? A special doll like our Alimrose Designs LolaDoll, or perhaps a Fiesta Crafts Royalty Finger Puppet Set- she will already be feeling like a real live Princess on the big day so will probably be keen to play royalty at the reception!

On the Big Day ensure there are extra pins, comb and hairspray available for any last minute hair fixes on fidgety and playful princesses! It is best to leave the dress until the very last minute to guard against accidental spillages or scuffs. Remember that a bored Princess won’t make for an enthusiastic Flower Girl- make sure that she has plenty of ‘clean’ activities to keep her occupied in the lead up to the big moment- puzzles are ideal, steer clear of texta’s and crayons and stick to pencils for any colouring in to ensure clean hands and a safe dress!

Sarah Louise Ballerina Dress

Remember that no matter how the Flower Girl comes down the aisle- smiling or not, walking the whole way or carried some of it- all your guests will find her little personality absolutely precious.

Princess Baby Showers

Gone are the days when every baby shower invitation was yellow and the gifts came in an assortment of pale yellows, greens or whites. Thanks to ultrasound technology we’re often blessed to know whether it’s a little prince or princess that the mum-to-be is anticipating. If Mum is lucky enough to be welcoming a little Princess then why not crown Mum-to-Be Queen for the day and throw a divine Princess themed Baby Shower!

Thanks to modern technology, many mums know the gender of bub before they arrive.

The popularity of princess themed birthday parties makes it impossibly easy to source a bounty of pink party supplies. Balloons, streamers, tablecloths all in pink will set the scene.

Use Google Images to discover thousands of pictures of princesses both real and imaginary- pop into some cheap frames and decorate the table and room with royalty. Maybe see if you can dig up a childhood picture of the Mum dressed up as a Princess!

Put a spin on the usual baby shower trivia and make it Princess trivia! Who knows Sleeping Beauty’s first name? Name the children of Princess Mary of Denmark? Who wrote the book ‘A Little Princess’? etc. The possibilities are endless!

Food can be tied easily into the theme- dye a dip with just a couple of drops of red food coloring- voila! Pink princess dip!  Drink pink lemonade from champagne glasses and provide bowls of pink sweets. There are literally thousands of possibilities for a Princess cake- here’s a charming option from the cupcake blog-

Tiny Princess Baby Shower Cupcake Tower. Thanks to Cupcake Blog.

To turn your Princess Baby Shower into the ultimate event (and to make gift purchasing a breeze!) Why not make it a PrettyPrincess Baby Shower?  Simply fill in a request form and Pretty Princess can bring a boutique of special outfits fit for a Princess right to your shower. Mum and guests can shop together to pick out the perfect items for the new arrival! (And of course guests can also purchase for their own little Princesses as well!)

Pretty Princess can even take the pressure out of planning- Pretty Princess provides you with a Facebook event for your party as well as postcard style invites for you to give your guests!

Pretty Princess Parties!

After a couple oftrial runs the Pretty Princess Party Plan is perfected and now open to the public!

Holding a Pretty Princess Party is like having an exclusive boutique in your very own home. Hosts can request any items they (or their guests!) are particularly interested in seeing. If you’ve had your eye on something in particular a party is your opportunity to see it up close before you make your decision- it may even make that special item a bit cheaper!

Hosts receive a voucher for 10% of the value of all purchases from their party- if your guests spend $500 between them that equals a $50 voucher for you! To celebrate the introduction of the parties Pretty Princess is also offering an additional gift to hostesses who book a party before June 30th (to be held by October 31st)- a $20 voucher to be used at the party!

Exclusive specials are offered at each party so your guests will be getting a great deal as well- as a matter of fact, Pretty Princess would hate for anyone to miss out- so if one of your intended guests can’t make it on the day they can still place an order to be counted with the rest of the party and with the same deals applicable!

To make it really easy to get the word out to your guests Pretty Princess will provide you with postcard style invites for you to give to your guests as well as creating a Facebook event page for your party.

What does the host need to do? Organise the date, time and place; invite guests; and prepare any refreshments. Party orders will be packed and delivered within two weeks (unless an item needs to be ordered in). The first step to hosting your party is to fill in the request form- remember book before June 30th to receive your $20 party voucher!

Winter Fashion Trends

Its that time of year again. The air has got a bite in it and our feet are freezing on the floorboards. Winter is a tricky time of year for kids. It can be hard to choose the right amount of clothing when wild little ones are liable to run about and become too hot; or when a trip to the park on a seemingly warm day is marred by a sudden chilly wind. The secret to effective winter dressing is layers- and great winter clothing can definitely make winter fun again.

One fabulous thing about girls’ fashion is that summer clothes need never be packed away. Winter-proof that special dress with tights and a cute long sleeved top underneath. Pinafore dresses are ideal winter purchases. Bought slightly large they fit nicely over bulkier winter tops and tights and will look just as charming come warmer days.

Pretty Princess has recently added Mini Mooches Pinafores to the wardrobe. Made to order in three delightful designs that will bring a splash of summer into the cold season. All with the most perfect frilly sleeves Pretty Princess is stocking ‘Flying Colours’, ‘Tweet Tweet’, and ‘Tre Chic’.

Mini Mooches Tweet Tweet Pinafore

The principal purchase of winter and queen of layering is of course the jacket. Bold, bright colours stand out in grey days and will chase away even the deepest winter blues! With our unpredictable Australian weather it’s a good idea to invest in a few cardigans as well. Light enough to wear underneath a coat on the coldest of days and providing just enough warmth on a sunny, almost-warm winter day.

Knits and crocheted items look truly special on little ones and there is a great variety of product available. Take advantage of the colder months and stock your little princesses closet with a few choice pieces too snugly to grace the warmer side of the year. Check out the Eternal Creation Eleanor Crocheted Jacket. Rainbow design complete with crocheted flower and tassels this one is sure to have little princesses snug and smiling.

Eternal Creation Eleanor Crocheted Jacket
My absolute favourite part of winter is snuggling down under a warm pile of blankets; it isn’t always easy to convince the littlest princesses to do the same though! Blankets are tossed and baby wakes freezing cold a number of times a night. Protect your sleep and babies health with a Sleeping Bag, Mamas and Papas ‘dreampod’ sleeping bags are bedding made clothing and provide “comfort, warmth, and safety.”

Mamas and Papas Sleeping Bags
With a few special wardrobe additions little princesses can be ready for whatever weather heads their way.

Party Time!

Who loves to shop in the comfort of their own home? I know I do! So here at Pretty Princess we would like to introduce Pretty Princess Parties. Think Tupperware Party but with products from Pretty Princess. At this stage, while my little Princess still needs me to feed every few hours, we are still trialing parties with family and friends, but are hoping to introduce them to the wider public later this year.

I recently held a party with some friends and family, and my beautiful and talented friend, Emily, was kind enough to write about her experience...

Clothes ready to be viewed.

Emma is a dear friend of mine, and our two little Princes’ are the most charming of friends. I also have two little Princesses so have, of course, delighted in Emma’s new endeavor with Pretty Princess! I’ve really enjoyed browsing the website and picking out favorites but it was something entirely new and special when I recently attended Emma’s very first Pretty Princess Party.

Emma’s lounge room was transformed to the most beautiful personal boutique. Charming mobiles hung from the fan and the walls were lined with racks of clothes and tables laden with all manner of precious things. Not to mention the table of chocolates, cheeses and cupcakes!

Toys and accessories laid out for viewing

Once we had all arrived we played an icebreaker game, scoring points for the different items we had in our handbags. Never before have I actually wished I were carrying the baby bag. With a cleared out handbag I lost dismally but plenty of laughs were had in the process!

Drinks and catalogues in hand we listened to Emma’s presentation featuring a few of the outfits available. There were a few extra special standouts marked by a chorus of oohs and aahs!

My wish list filled pretty quickly so it was good to have the opportunity to look at and compare the clothes up close after the presentation. The fabrics were luscious and every stitch exquisite. I’d had my eye on an Eternal Creation outfit on the website for a while and having seen it in the flesh it made it to my purchase list immediately! I also bought a Little Leona dress at the party which is made of the lightest of fabrics, with possibly the most stunning embroidery I’ve ever seen, yet I’d never noticed it on the website before!

Emily purchased this Little Leona dress for her daughter.

It was a good opportunity to really become familiar with some of the Pretty Princess Products I wasn’t completely familiar with such as toys and linens. I also hadn’t spent much time looking at the accessories online, but found lots of perfect little pieces to match my girls’ outfits.

There were some great bargains to be had at the party; some brands were heavily discounted across the board. I was so happy with everything I bought and felt like I got a great deal. I think the best thing about the party was… well the party! It is so nice to be in a room of mums, chatting and laughing- and what better circumstance then over a bit of private shopping!

Introducing Pinkberry Kisses…

It is an exciting day here at Pretty Princes! Yesterday we received our first shipment of our new range of hairbands and hairclips. We have found two new companies who make beautiful hair accessories for little princesses. The first new range comes from Pinkberry Kisses. Pinkberry Kisses is an Australian company that was started by Lisa, who wanted to make pretty hair accessories that actually stay in baby and little girls’ hair. The great thing about this range is that they have a unique non slip lining which ensures that they stay in.
Baby Pink Satin Flower Clip

Pretty Princess has a collection of the different headbands and hairclips, available through our store, starting at $3.95. You can chose from flower clips, butterfly clips, interchangeable bow and headband sets, and Alice headbands. There are various colours and the interchangeable bow and headband sets come in three different sizes; 0-6months, 6-12months, and 1-3 years. They are well made using the softest material and are the perfect accessory to any outfit!

When I opened the parcel yesterday with all the beautiful clips and headbands in there, I struggled not to keep any for my own little princess. Luckily she doesn’t have enough hair for the clips. However, the interchangeable bow and headband set would be perfect for her. I might my husband to hide them from me!
Interchangeable Bow & Headband Set - Pink

We invite you all over to view our new range.

Happy shopping.

PS. We will be introducing our second new range very shortly! Can’t wait for you to see that range!

My First Viewing

At the start of this week I had the pleasure to attend my first ever viewing of the new range for some of our clothing labels. It was exciting and daunting at the same time. I had been looking forward to this day for weeks but when the day arrived, I felt nervous. My sister-in-law, Cherie, had been before, so had told me a bit about what happened and what to expect, but this did not seem to help my nerves.
The viewing was in Brisbane (a three hour car trip), so it was an early start for me and my baby princess, who being breastfed was unable to stay with Poppy for the day like her big brother. We arrived in Brisbane with an hour to spare before my appointment, so we enjoyed some lunch at a delightful little tea room/florist. This hour gave me time to relax after the drive (being from the country, I am not use to the hectic city driving).
When it was time for my appointment and I made my way to the office of the agency. I walked in and the first thing I noticed was all the walls of the office were filled with racks of baby and children’s clothing. I felt like a kid in a candy store! I had to remind myself that I was there to look at clothes for Pretty Princess, not for my own children. I was shown to a chair and given a glass of water, while being instructed about the procedure. When we were ready to start, I was shown the first label, and each new design/style that would be available for the coming season. There were rompers, dresses, shorts, shirts, wraps, and all the matching accessories. When that particular design/style had been shown to me, I chose the items I liked and they were placed on a separate rack. It was so exciting to see what was coming out and I had to really control myself with what I chose, otherwise I would have said yes to everything! The clothing was beautiful, stylish, made from the softest fabric, and fit for a princess. Once I had seen the entire range, I looked again at the ones I had chosen and eliminated any I had decided I would not purchase. All the chosen items were placed on order. While my order was processed, I was able to browse through the other labels on display.
I have chosen items from two different labels with the clothes due to arrive in the second half of the year. I am looking forward to revealing the ranges when they arrive.
Overall, my first experience at a viewing was exciting and I am looking forward to the next one.

New Beginnings

Hello to all our valued customers and fans. I am very excited to have taken over Pretty Princess. I thought I’d write a blog to introduce myself and explain why I wanted to be a part of Pretty Princess. This is the first blog I have ever written, although I have read a few different ones. It is a lot harder than I anticipated. This is my fifth attempt at beginning. I remember from my university days that starting is ALWAYS the hardest part. Once the first couple of paragraphs were completed, the words would flow on.

So, let me start by telling you a bit about myself. I am blessed to be married to the most handsome, loving, generous, and funny man, Jordan. We will be celebrating three years of marriage this coming March. However, it feels like we have known each other our whole lives. I am grateful every day that Jordan is in my life – he is my best friend, my teacher, my cheer squad, my confidant, my mentor, and my knight in shining armour.

Jordan and I have been blessed with two beautiful and amazing children. Jarrod, our eldest, has been a part of our family for 21 months. He fills our life with laughter, love, and joy. Currently, he is obsessed with The Wiggles and our house is constantly filled with the sound of their music. Heidi, our second child, joined our little family only six weeks ago. She has already got her father and brother wrapped around her little finger. Heidi is our little princess, who we love to bits, despite the sleepless nights and loud crying. Our family may only be small but it is filled with enough love to fill the Milky Way.

Me and my Priness, Heidi, the day she was born.

One of the best things about Jordan was he was a part of an amazing (and big; he is one of six children) family. His beautiful sister in law, Cherie, was the previous owner of Pretty Princess. When I first heard of Pretty Princess, I loved looking at the stunning clothes and seeing the wide range she had to offer. Cherie did a fantastic job of starting and building up the business to be a respected and high quality brand. When she told me she was thinking of selling, due to other business commitments, I knew instantly that I wanted to buy it. So after some discussions with my parents, we decided to purchase the business together. I am looking forward to my new venture and continuing the legacy Cherie has left. I am excited to find and sell beautiful baby girl and young girls’ clothes, accessories, bedding, and toys.

PS. Look out for my next blog about the future (and exciting) plans I have for Pretty Princess.
